It is endemic to southern California, where it is known only from the San Gabriel, San Bernardino, and San Jacinto Mountains. 〔(Calflora database: ''Juncus duranii'' ) . 2.12.2013〕 The plant grows in wet habitat in the local forests. ;Description ''Juncus duranii'' is a perennial herb forming clumps of thin, flat stems up to about 20 centimeters tall.
